The story
A starving orphan walks out on the Church when he sees through its hypocrisy — and turns an abandoned garden into a trading empire that brings ordinary people food at prices they can afford. In doing so he declares war on three powerful men of Bayonne: the merchant, the politician and the insurer.
Twenty years after his enemies fell, old Maurice Morel suddenly hears a name again — from the mouth of his granddaughter Mireille, who now fights the same power. And he begins to tell his story.
