The Story

A boy from the harbour.
A secret.
An empire from nothing.

Porthaven, a damp little harbour town in the English South West. Dave Hatcher grows up among coal smoke and the sea that takes what it takes. At school he is written off as hopeless — but on the market he understands faster than anyone what people want, and what they will pay for it.

A sweeping rags-to-riches saga about ambition, origins — and the price of success.

From the author

Why I wrote this story

Porthaven Boy is my first book — and my most personal. I wanted to tell the story of a boy everyone had written off because the letters danced before his eyes. And of the second kind of intelligence that no school ever tests.
